Strength in Community, Power in Unity

Meet Derek Avery

I'm Derek Avery, and Together We Thrive!

Thank you for visiting the official website of Derek Avery’s Campaign. I am excited to share our vision for a united and vibrant District 3. It’s time to come together and build a community where every voice is heard, and every individual can flourish.

My journey is marked by turning ideas into impactful projects that uplift communities. From revitalizing neighborhoods in Dallas to championing transparency and equity, my track record reflects my commitment to fostering positive transformations. With a background in real estate development and a drive to bridge gaps, I’ve been honored to serve on various boards and organizations that amplify the voices that deserve to be heard. Join me on this journey of community-driven progress and let’s shape a brighter future together through education, empowerment, and collective action.

Embarking on a journey of meaningful impact, my career has been an exploration of creating positive change. As the Owner and CEO of Avery Real Estate, COIR Holdings, and COIR Development, I’ve shaped projects that blend community revitalization with smart business strategies. Serving as the Vice President of Real Estate at Frazier Revitalization and the Director of Landlord Engagement at Metro Dallas Homelessness Alliance, I’ve taken on challenges head-on, using innovative approaches to address housing and community development. My role as the Director of Housing Initiatives at Abounding Prosperity, Inc. enabled me to intertwine real estate with social well-being, amplifying affordable housing solutions. With a deep-rooted commitment to education and community growth, I’ve dedicated myself to making Dallas District 3 a place of opportunity, equality, and progress.

Dedication to my community’s well-being has been the cornerstone of my journey. Through my involvement with organizations like the North Texas Alliance to Reduce Unintended Teen Pregnancy, Green Careers Dallas, Faith in Texas, and Friends of Juanita Craft House and Civil Rights Museum, I’ve strived to drive positive change at the grassroots level. As a board member and active participant, I’ve collaborated with diverse stakeholders, bringing their voices together to shape solutions that matter. My engagement with South East Houston Community Development Corporation and roles as a speaker at Strong Towns and Urban Land Institute events have enabled me to amplify community concerns and advocate for sustainable growth. Every step of the way, my goal has been to empower residents and elevate the District 3 neighborhood, fostering a future that’s inclusive, resilient, and united.

Emphasizing Vision and Passion

Get to know me and my journey in this inspiring campaign video. I’ll share how my experiences have shaped my vision and why I’m the best candidate to represent your aspirations. Together, let’s build a District 3 we can all be proud of.

Priorities

Affordable Housing and Homeownership

Problem: Housing affordability is a pressing concern for many District 3 residents. Skyrocketing property prices and rental costs have made it increasingly challenging for families to find stable and secure housing.

Economic Development

Problem: Economic growth and job opportunities are essential for the prosperity of our district. Supporting local businesses and entrepreneurs is crucial to creating a thriving economy.

1. Small Business Funding: We will work to secure funding and grants to support small and microbusinesses, helping them expand and create more job opportunities for District 3 residents.

2. Public-Private Partnerships: We believe in collaboration. By forging partnerships with private enterprises, we can drive economic development and infrastructure projects that benefit our community.

3.Investment in Technology and Education: Equipping businesses with the tools and resources they need to succeed will bolster their growth and contribute to overall economic development.
1. Encourage public sector overinvestment to make up for previous underinvestment.

2. Attempt to hold developers responsible in front of our neighborhood, as we are key constituencies.

3. When proposing a project that needs zoning changes or financial assistance from the city, I will demand that developers first engage with the neighborhood.

4. Improve and expand our green places, like Westmoreland Park, the Hampton pocket park, and the Chalk Hill Trail, as a top priority. defending our neighborhoods against unethical real estate practices

Transportation and Infrastructure

Problem: District 3's transportation infrastructure requires improvements to enhance accessibility, reduce traffic congestion, and support community growth.

1. Sustainable Transportation Solutions: We will prioritize investments in public transportation, biking lanes, and walkable neighborhoods, promoting environmental sustainability while addressing traffic issues.

2. Efficient Road Development: Strategic road development projects will be undertaken, ensuring they are designed to accommodate the evolving needs of our district.

3. Active Community Engagement: We will actively seek input from residents, businesses, and community leaders to ensure transportation solutions reflect the diverse needs of our district.
